LGBTQIA+ Affirming Therapy

Whether you’re coming to therapy to make sense of your identity, seeking support as you come out, navigating the gifts and challenges of having queer relationships in a world that is shaped for cis/het folks, or just looking for therapy in a safe place where your identity is a non-issue, where you won’t be misgendered, and where you’re understood, we’re here for you.

Identity Exploration

You might be at the very beginning of questioning your sexuality or gender identity. It can be exhilarating to discover more about who you are, and to experiment with different ways to express yourself. It can also be confusing, as you try to understand the meaning of your past and present experiences. We provide space for you to make sense of who you are and how you want to present to others.

Support for Gender-Affirming Care

We unequivocally support access to gender-affirming medical and mental health intervention. The current attempts to restrict access to care for transgender minors and adults endanger the well-being of our transgender clients, and for many, create additional isolation and fear.

We provide letters of support as needed for our clients to obtain gender-affirming care in medical settings. We also call on our state and national congresspeople to protect the rights and access that are so vital for our clients.

Coming Out

Prejudice from family and friends, the threat of violence, and the fear of being cut off from our communities can make coming out extremely difficult. We experience different levels of safety in different settings, or with different people. Many of us also hold other oppressed identities, which can make coming out even more complicated; racism, immigration status, ability, and many other factors may make coming out even more risky for some of us. We often have to make complex decisions about coming out that balance our need for openness with our needs for support and safety.

We’re also different people with different preferences! For some of us, being out with everyone all the time feels vital to our well-being. Others may be more selective about who we choose to tell.

We are here to help you decide how you want to share your identity, in your particular circumstances. We can help you plan for these conversations and practice what you want to say. We also help you make plans for support and safety after you come out.

Queer Identity, Faith, and Religion

Many of us experience prejudice and alienation within religious communities. We may also wrestle with what we’ve been taught in our churches, mosques, synagogues or temples about our gender identity or our sexuality. It may not feel safe to discuss these things with others. We’re here to help you:

  • Make sense of your religious beliefs and faith

  • Understand how faith relates to your sexuality or gender identity

  • Decide whether and how to come out in your faith community

  • Heal from religious trauma
