When something happens that breaks your basic sense of safety in the world, it can affect everything in your life:

your sense of who you are…

your relationships…

your trust in the world and in people…

your ability to handle stress…

Your emotions can feel too intense to handle. Small reminders can plunge you into intense feelings or memories. You might find yourself reliving the experience over and over in vivid detail. Sadness, anxiety, and anger can linger for months or even years.

Approaches to Healing

Healing from trauma is a process, especially when healing from multiple traumatic experiences. Because trauma can affect so many parts of your life, we combine lots of different approaches to help you heal. We offer research-supported approaches, including:

  • Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Attachment-based Approaches

  • Relational Strategies

We work with you to find the combination of approaches that is right for you.

Trauma and Relationships

Trauma that affects your sense of safety with others sometimes makes it difficult to form healthy, meaningful, secure attachments. Depending on your particular attachment style, your nervous system might react intensely to closeness or to distance. Your body might experience being “too close” or “too far” from partners or friends as a threat, and you might have big reactions that are hard to explain to others.

We work with you to re-establish your sense of safety with others. We can give you tools to decide when it is safe to trust other people. We help you learn to soothe your nervous system in moments when closeness or distance feel threatening. We also work with you to establish boundaries that support your well-being.
